Team Sport, Lack of Cohesion and Sustained Success! - Feedback: @Sports! Healthcare is a team sport. The patients are the most important members of the team. They are the players. Physicians are the coaches. They should be adjusting their recommendations after receiving maximum data from the patients. Patients must become the professors of their disease. In order to have a successful team, physicians need several assistant coaches. The physician extenders must not be physician substitutes. Physician extender are nurse educators, dieticians, psychologists, social workers and exercise therapists. Patients must be at the center of the healthcare team and relate to the entire team in order to have maximum knowledge about their disease. It requires a great deal of responsibility on the part of the patient. Business owners assemble requirements, designers specify the system, another group engineers the hardware, outside manufacturers produce the product, and a team of marketers figure out promotional details. This lack of cohesion leads to confounding products that perpetually blink 12:00. It's not just product companies, either. Service firms are just as susceptible. For another project, I conducted field research to inform the design of a website for a financial services firm. We found out that customers were having challenges not just with the online experience, but with the monthly paper statements and the call center experience as well. When broaching this to our client, their response was that they had no interaction with the teams responsible for those components of the service.
