Feeds by Friends, Profitable and Business Opportunities!
The ability to easily sort customized feeds deserves special attention. Facebook began to roll out a new design of its homepage, with a number of subtle features intended to make feed-based social networking more intuitive for the typical user. With the changes, sorting feeds by friend lists, people can more quickly gather specific types of information from within feeds. Rather than asking the somewhat restricting 'What are you doing right now?' the new version of the Publisher asks you the much more general 'What’s on your mind? That’s big because that’s what has made Twitter explode in growth. Facebook realizes the use of real-time updates has moved far beyond that. And you’ll notice that Facebook no longer ties this information to your name. So it’s no longer you are doing such and such, it’s just your name followed by your message.
Twitter business model is found! Jason Calacanis just put Twitter in business. How? He offered $250,000 to be one of 20 users in Twitter's 'Suggested Follows' for two years. Twitter is growing so fast that being on the suggested list for new users can generate more than 10,000 followers a day. Jason thinks the slots will soon be worth a Super-Bowl-like $1 million a year, as companies compete to be able to send real-time messages directly to millions of followers. TechCrunch has more on Jason's offer here. Even if Twitter kills the suggested page, this exchange provides a hint of how powerful (and profitable) this company can eventually become. We continue to think it will eventually be worth more than $1 billion.
