In 62AD the Roman Emperor Nero sent slaves up to the mountains to bring back snow to mix with nectar, fruit and honey.

But it wasn't until 1295 milk was used to improve the recipe when Marco Polo, a great adventurer, returned from China to Italy with a new recipe for making snow ice cream.
