Glutathione, Oxidation and Mitochondrial DNA! - Feedback: @Health!
Alpha lipoic acid is also an antioxidant, a substance that neutralizes potentially harmful chemicals called free radicals. What makes alpha lipoic acid unique is that it functions in water and fat, unlike the more common antioxidants vitamins C and E, and it appears to be able to recycle antioxidants such as vitamin C and glutathione after they have been used up. Glutathione is an important antioxidant that helps the body eliminate potentially harmful substances. Alpha lipoic acid is made by the body and can be found in very small amounts in foods such as spinach, broccoli, peas, Brewer's yeast, brussel sprouts, rice bran, and organ meats.
People with diabetes or metabolic syndrome tend to do much better when taking lipoic acid, as it enhances insulin sensitivity. There’s even been quite a bit of research showing it can restore T cell function. T cells are a type of white blood cells that are of key importance to your immune system, and are at the core of adaptive immunity, the system that tailors your body's immune response to specific pathogens. Your entire body, including your DNA, is under endless, daily assault from a variety of sources, from poor diets to pollution. This violent process is called oxidation, which damages your cells. Enter antioxidants. They include vitamins and other nutrients that target free radicals. Food is a powerful source of these valiant protectors. To limit the damage to your cells, which can slow down disease and signs of aging.
Glutathione is one of the main nonprotein antioxidants in the cell which, together with its related enzymes, constitute the glutathione system. The involvement of glutathione in aging has been known since the early seventies. Several studies have reported that reduced glutathione is decreased in cells from old animals, whereas oxidized glutathione tends to be increased. Recent experiments from our laboratory have underscored the importance of cellular compartmentation of glutathione. Mitochondrial glutathione plays a key role in the protection against free radical damage associated with aging. Oxidative damage to mitochondrial DNA is directly related to an oxidation of mitochondrial glutathione. In fact, aging is associated with oxidative damage to proteins, nucleic acids, and lipids.

Awareness, Gluten and Genetic Disorder! - Feedback: @Food!
The statement I’m allergic to milk is used quite often in normal conversation. Instead of a milk allergy, a person making this comment is likely to be lactose intolerant. This confusion between food allergies and food intolerance is a frequent misconception; yet there are clear differences between the two. Food allergies involve an immune response, while food intolerances do not. Only about two to four percent of adults and six to eight percent of children under the age of three have true food allergies. Others reacting to foods most likely have food intolerance. If you have a food allergy, avoid the food. There is more flexibility with food intolerances—you can choose to eat small amounts only, or manage your symptoms. In either case, you should always be aware of what is in the foods you eat—whether from a grocer, restaurant, or your own kitchen. Awareness is the key to management.
Celiac disease (CD) is triggered by ingesting certain proteins, commonly referred to as gluten, which are naturally present in some cereal grains. While CD can’t be cured, its symptoms can be controlled through diet. One of the grains people with celiac disease can eat is flour processed from food sorghum varieties. Whole grain sorghum flour is a wholesome, hearty grain that provides important fiber and has a mild flavor that won’t compete with the delicate flavors of other food ingredients. CD is a genetic disorder and may occur in children as well as adults. When someone with CD eats gluten, an autoimmune response that damages the small intestine is set off. In turn, the small intestine loses its ability to absorb the nutrients in food, leading to malnutrition and other complications.
A genetic disorder is a disease that is caused by an abnormality in an individual's DNA. Abnormalities can range from a small mutation in a single gene to the addition or subtraction of an entire chromosome or set of chromosomes. To learn more about different genetic disorders, browse through the Genetic Disorder Library. Genetic counselors are health professionals who are trained to help families understand genetic disorders and to provide information and support to those families. They may also serve as patient advocates by referring individuals or families to local services that can be of assistance. Genetic research is a powerful tool for treating medical conditions, but it is still a new tool. Many people whose families are affected by genetics disorders don't understand how it will affect their lives.

Kaizen, Challenges and Internet - Feedback: @Video!
External success, whether personally or for your business begins with success on the inside. The easiest and most effective way to improve internally is through the practice of continuous, measured self-improvement. The Japanese call this constant and never-ending process of improvement Kaizen. The essence of the entrepreneurial spirit is based upon mental toughness and the courage to accept risk. Without a healthy willingness to take on risk, none of us would have pursued this entrepreneurial path. The part I suggest we concentrate on is the mental toughness that comes from the willingness to slug it out day after day in the trenches, making incremental progress. That type of progress is not sexy and many times it isn’t fun, but it is crucial for laying the foundation for success and for taking that risk when an opportunity presents itself for greater rates of growth.
Join the entrepreneur movement. Stimulate the economy. Spread the word. We want people to see and share this video and feel one of two things. Either they are inspired to go out and do something they felt they couldn't do before, to create the job they've always wanted and go out and start that for themselves; or, they're reminded of why they're doing what they do every day. There are a lot of challenges, a lot of ups and downs, and sometimes it's just nice to remember what the larger impact is. On what entrepreneurs should remember during these difficult times: Just go out there and do it. There are a lot of people saying no, saying it can't be done and it's a bad time in the economy. There are a lot of no's around. People don't go out there and do what they want because they're scared.
History of the internet is an animated documentary explaining the inventions from time-sharing to filesharing, from Arpanet to Internet. The history is told using the PICOL icons on picol.org , which are available for download soon. On blog.picol.org you can get news about this project.

Team Sport, Lack of Cohesion and Sustained Success! - Feedback: @Sports!
Healthcare is a team sport. The patients are the most important members of the team. They are the players. Physicians are the coaches. They should be adjusting their recommendations after receiving maximum data from the patients. Patients must become the professors of their disease. In order to have a successful team, physicians need several assistant coaches. The physician extenders must not be physician substitutes. Physician extender are nurse educators, dieticians, psychologists, social workers and exercise therapists. Patients must be at the center of the healthcare team and relate to the entire team in order to have maximum knowledge about their disease. It requires a great deal of responsibility on the part of the patient.
Business owners assemble requirements, designers specify the system, another group engineers the hardware, outside manufacturers produce the product, and a team of marketers figure out promotional details. This lack of cohesion leads to confounding products that perpetually blink 12:00. It's not just product companies, either. Service firms are just as susceptible. For another project, I conducted field research to inform the design of a website for a financial services firm. We found out that customers were having challenges not just with the online experience, but with the monthly paper statements and the call center experience as well. When broaching this to our client, their response was that they had no interaction with the teams responsible for those components of the service. You had to go all the way up to the CMO before you had a holistic view of the offering.
How do you develop strategies to create a winning environment for sustained success? How do you build and lead a high performance management team? How do you successfully apply the use of innovative medical, sport science and psychological techniques to create a winning edge? What are the key criteria for developing a team environment to maximise player performance across different stages of a player’s career? What are the elements in a successful strategy to identify, screen and recruit elite players? How do you develop a winning mindset in players? What are the most effective mechanisms for successfully managing a multi-cultural group of elite players within a team dynamic? What is the effective strategy for balancing the demands of a 60 game season whilst also preparing for the future?
