Change, Infrastructure and Challenge - Feedback: @Focus!
After a long and tiring election, Barack Obama will be our next President of the United States. There is much speculation and theories of why he was victorious, but the message was clear - people are hungry for change, and Barack Obama is the face of change. I decided to use Social Radar for some post analysis of the election. I wanted to get some stats on some of the important issues and how much they were being talked about with each of the candidates. I used Social Radar’s Topic Analysis feature to give us a percentage of posts that each word appeared in around that candidate. I also included a trend chart of each topic to give you a percentage of posts that contained each topic with the candidate. These results are all between September 1st, 2008 - November 3rd, 2008. Here are the analysis results.
Analyzing Obama’s Speech to Congress. Interactive video and transcript of President Obama's address before a joint session of Congress on Feb. 24, 2009, with annotations from New York Times reporters.
Before Obama was sworn in, he launched Change.gov under The Office of The President-elect. Change is an easy concept to grasp after 8 years of crony capitalism and fraudulent wars built on lies from international war criminals. But change in and of itself is a tool, not a destination, where is it going? While launching a plan to increase government spending by nearly a trillion dollars to create millions of jobs, upgrade infrastructure, and computerize the national health care system. Part of Obama's spending plan is to expanding broadband access to millions of Americans so businesses can compete on a level playing field, wherever they are located.
I am inspired by: Challenges, instinct, characters, goosebumps in the warm wind, sincerity, diversity, humour, freedom, kindness, and things that work when you really, really need them to.
I regret: The forces, both within and out of our control, that prevent us from believing in our possibilities and follow truly meaningful adventures. Also, mosquitoes, bedbugs, taxi drivers, and sand flies. Today I am grateful for: So many once in a lifetimes, my ability to write about them, and the wonderful opportunity to share them with you.

Mitochondria, ADP/ATP and Body Fat - Feedback: @Health Aware!
The thing about brown fat is that it takes a very small amount to burn a lot of energy. The fat really is brown, researchers say, because it is filled with mitochondria, the tiny energy factories of cells. Mitochondria contain iron, giving the tissue a reddish brown color. The hope is that scientists may find safe ways to turn on peoples’ brown fat, allowing them to lose weight by burning more calories. The key to finding brown fat in humans was PET-CT scans. The PET scans pinpoint areas where cells are actively burning glucose and the CT scans identify it as fat. Because brown fat rapidly burns glucose to produce heat, it lights up in PET scans. In two of the three studies, investigators also studied samples of brown fat that were removed from a few subjects, confirming that the cells had a protein, UCP-1, that is unique to brown fat.
A variety of substrate carrier proteins that are involved in energy transfer are found in the inner mitochondrial membrane. The brown fat uncoupling protein (UCP) dissipates oxidative energy into heat by transporting protons from the cytosol into the mitochondrial matrix. UCP functions as a dimer, forming a proton channel that leads to uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation by dissipation of the electrochemical potential across the inner membrane. These characteristics are shared by the ADP/ATP carrier protein, which is a member of the mitochondrial carrier family.
Body fat measurements and the measuring tape are recognized as superior methods for measuring weight loss. When one declares that they want to lose weight, what they often mean is that they want to lose fat. So, now that you've had your body fat percentage measured, what does the number really mean? First, your body fat percentage is simply the percentage of fat your body contains. If you are 150 pounds and 10% fat, it means that your body consists of 15 pounds fat and 135 pounds lean body mass. A certain amount of fat is essential to bodily functions. Fat regulates body temperature, cushions and insulates organs and tissues and is the main form of the body's energy storage. The following table describes body fat ranges and their associated categories.

Time, Strategy and Twitter - Feedback: @Digital (1)!
People use Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to form associations with others that share the same personal or professional interests. Millions of people are using these sites to keep in touch with their families and friends. Now companies are jumping on the bandwagon and incorporating social networking sites into their marketing campaigns. Although, social networking is relatively new, it is gaining status as a new way for companies to effectively market their products and services. Because it is interactive cost effective and the ability to market 24/7. Regardless of what social networking site your company decides to join, all of them will enable you to foster a closer relationship with your customers. Social networking can be implemented into your organization’s marketing campaign because it is free. The only investment required from companies is their time.
To survive the current economic downturn as an importer or exporter, as well as cutting costs, you also need to grow your revenue where possible. Apart from keeping your current customers, the next goals are to increase you customer base and/or perhaps find more cost effective suppliers. The most popular and fastest growing Social Media that can be leveraged by business are Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Businesses that adopt these technologies will have the jump on their competition. Developing a strategy combining these three forms of Social Media can develop three powerful networks without any financial outlay.
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock you’ve probably heard someone enthusiastically talk about Twitter. You many know that it is a web 2.0 social media thingy. You may also have made the mistake of writing Twitter off as simply being the next MySpace and being of interest only to text-message obsessed teens. Watch this video to see exactly why Twitter is a great relationship buiding tool, and keep watching all the videos in this series to learn how you can incorporate it into your Real Estate investing business.
The savvy online shoe retailer Zappos has been more fortunate. By allowing staff members as well as the CEO, Tony Hsieh, to Twitter, it has helped to maintain its reputation for customer service and generate sales through repeat business. But are any other companies benefiting from the explosion of social media?

Twitter, Facebook and StumbleUpon - Feedback: @Digital (2)!
Part of the challenge in business is to predict what’s going to happen in the future. Real estate, in particular, is undergoing an enormous change from what we knew even 10 years ago. This is being driven by technology and the rapid rise of social media. What’s social media? One of the best ones that I’ve come across, from the website Duct Tape Marketing, is simple but to the point: Social media is the use of technology combined with social interaction to create or co-create value. I started this blog earlier this year, and have been using Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media vehicles. They’ve given another medium to connect with people that we need to connect with to continue our growth. But the tool that I’m most excited about is one that you may have started to hear more about lately due to its rapidly increasing popularity - Twitter. According to Nielsen, Twitter is actually growing even faster than that number since statistics track web hits, and not usage from mobile phones. Many of the people on Twitter are business professionals. I’ve witnessed the value of Twitter. I’ve had a chance to speak with and learn from other business owners.
Facebook Pages present a massive opportunity for brands to directly engage with their existing and future customers, even the occasional passer-by. This conversation brings with it the power that all other social media tools and platforms provide which is why this latest release of Facebook Pages is so important for brands. Yes, changes will come to the Pages product over the coming months and years but as many early adopters know, it’s often best to wait until the second version of a product arrives. Now that the second version of Facebook Pages has launched, it’s time for you to take your brand to the next level. I have outlined 10 tips for creating engaging Facebook Pages. These are only the top 10 and there are many other lessons to be learned but this should serve as the ultimate starter guide for any brand/company looking to make their entrance into Facebook.
What's got a button to push, knows how to make money while changing the world and is read all over? StumbleUpon! The social discovery network, like Pandora for webpages and videos, just passed 7 million users according to the site. That's about 50% bigger than Twitter, though Stumble is rarely talked about and never promoted. Every media personality on the planet is gaga over Twitter. Today is a good time to remember what a big deal StumbleUpon is, even if it's hardly ever talked about. It's a fun, playful, chaotic way to navigate around the web. The service leverages recommendation technology and the network effects of analyzing large amounts of aggregate user data. Those are two of the most important factors in the emerging era online. StumbleUpon is the closest thing that the Web 2.0 world has to brain therapy.
