      Doctors, Playing Doctor and Cyberchondria!
Catherine was worried. For weeks she had been experiencing twitching in muscles all over her body. So, she did what millions of us would do: she Googled 'muscle twitching'. Do the search yourself to see why Catherine's worry quickly turned to terror. Among the results are a page on a university website about Creutzfeldt-Jakob. Cyberchondria has been around for almost a decade. Why are so many of us so willing to believe the skewed result of web searches? One problem is laziness. Pauline Brimblecombe believes the internet has made patients more interested in their own health and therefore more likely to look after themselves. If my patients Google something and come rushing in with bits of paper, at least I know what they're worried about and can reassure them. Horvitz, too, believes in the power of the web. It's an extraordinary resource for healthcare information. We're talking about a stone with a rough edge here, not a fatal flaw. Doctors need to work with patients and realise they are going to go to the web before they come in.
They borrow leftover prescription drugs from friends, attempt to self-diagnose ailments online, stretch their diabetes and asthma medicines for as long as possible and set their own broken bones. When emergencies strike, they rarely can afford the bills that follow. Nicole Polec said she has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has a client who procures Ritalin on her behalf from a sympathetic doctor who has seen Ms. Polec’s diagnosis. Ms. Polec’s roommate, Fara D’Aguiar, 26, treated her last flu with castoff amoxicillin (probably expired) given to her by a friend. When Robert Voris last had health insurance, in 2007, he stockpiled tubing and other supplies. He said the tubing for the insulin pump, which administers insulin, costs $900 a month, so lately he has instead been injecting insulin with a syringe. At this point, I can’t really justify it monetarily. I’ve got to make rent and eat. With insurance out of reach, Mr. McElroy has taken to playing doctor, using online resources like WebMD, which offers medical news, descriptions of various diseases and drugs, and discussion groups. As he spoke, Mr. McElroy was icing his feet, which, one day in January, had become cripplingly painful; he was unable to walk. I think I have plantar fasciitis. I’ve been laid out for two weeks.
Cyberchondria is the deluded belief you suffer from all the diseases featured on the Internet. That's a little harsh, London Times. I mean, we've all done this at one point or another: Hm, what's this little bump on the back of my neck here, Good Sir Internet? Malignant Tumor!?! And this cramp in my abdomen? Stomach Cancer! And yet, we're not truly deluded. We're just looking for answers, and it's easy to get alarmed by a doom-saying description that seems to be just a little too accurate. But realize that most of the horrifying diseases you dig up online are extremely rare, and don't put too much credence in Internet diagnoses—you need to see a real doctor if you think there's something wrong. You do your best to live green and eat healthy, remember? And an important part of having a healthy lifestyle is knowing you lead one. And yes, there are some horrible, debilitating, even fatal diseases out there. But you probably don't have them.

Fruits & Veggies, All Ages and Anti-Inflammatory!
When you look at your lunch and dinner meals, do you see an amount of fruits and veggies equal to about half your plate? Did you have a fruit or veggie for breakfast? And maybe include one as part of a snack? Most of us know we should eat more fruits and veggies; most of us don’t eat enough. Here are 13 fun ways to eat more fruits and vegetables! Compared with people who consume a diet with only small amounts of fruits and vegetables, those who eat more generous amounts as part of a healthful diet are likely to have reduced risk of chronic diseases, including stroke and perhaps other cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The purpose of Farms Food Fun is to continue growing agri-food awareness by providing you with information and resources on the agri-industry. There have been some fun elements added to the site in order to make it enjoyable for all ages. Explore the many games, activities, trivia challenges and fact sheets. Think you know all there is to know about the farm industry? Check out Oprah’s schedule and catch her or one of her friends at an event near you! Have fun with games, trivia that will test your agri-knowledge, and activities including crafts you can do at home. Fast food restaurants use yellow, red, and orange because those are the colors that stimulate hunger. People over the age of fifty start to lose their dislike for foods that taste bitter. The average person can live about a month without eating any food, but can only live about a week without water. 97 percent of caffeine must be removed from coffee for it to be labeled decaffeinated.
Our troubling economy, concerns about the environment and the desire to prevent age-related ailments are behind many of the top 10 food and nutrition trends that will shape supermarket shelves and restaurant menus in 2009. The economic crisis has made frugal the new black, and has brought comfort food, nostalgic brands and at-home cooking back in style. A desire to avoid a trip to the doctor is driving the trend of immunity-enhancing foods. The number of foods and beverages claiming to strengthen the immune system has tripled in the last year. The concept of inflammation may finally achieve mainstream status. Evaluating foods based on their anti-inflammatory potential may be the next big thing.

      Positive Focus, Responsibility and Smiling!
Most successful athletes know that their mentality plays a strong role in their performance. Many recreational athletes and trainees also realize on some level that their thoughts and moods affect their workouts. But very few actually dedicate sufficient time to train their brain. Our mind has the ability to make us stronger, more muscular, more athletic, more powerful, even wealthier and happier! Set smarter Goals and create a strong, clear mental picture of these goals using visualization and imagery training. Reinforce these ideas often using affirmations and maintain a positive focus on your objectives and employ interventions such as negative thought-stopping techniques. Achievements are based not solely on talent and hard physical conditioning, but on mental strength and a clear vision of where you want to go. You need to decide what you want, know why you want it, and develop a strong desire to achieve it. As you progress you will increase your belief that you will succeed. Because your beliefs shape your reality, you will be surprised at how quickly you achieve results that you thought impossible a few short months ago.
Put Teammates First is an exoteric responsibility—that is, imparting to someone else and it's missing from our culture. When you are acting exoterically, you are acting ethically. How do I treat others? How do I fit into the team? What is my responsibility? Ask yourself these questions, no matter your profession. We all have monkey brains. We think terrible things sometimes. Quitting, abandoning something important to us. But don't let that disturb you too much, because it happens to everyone. Really, who you are is your second or even third thought. Have faith in yourself is the most crucial part of mental toughness. Have faith that you'll figure it out. You are a lot stronger physically and mentally than you think you are.
The expressions on your face can actually tell your brain to register certain emotions. If you walked around all day scowling, it probably wouldn't do much to put you in a good mood. But on the other hand, if you walk around smiling all day, your brain registers the smile as happiness, and you really do feel better. Try smiling right now. I dare you! Smiling is just one way to feel better about yourself, and lift your spirits. Become a happier, more self-confident person! In fact I am smiling because I know you are smiling.

      80.000 Fans, Googly and Walk/Run!
A well-placed ball, high to the corner, will not be stopped by the goalkeeper even if he anticipates it. Blast it or place it? Wait for the keeper to move? Or pick a spot and stick to it? There are many thoughts going through a penalty taker's mind as soon as the referee points to the spot. Some players blast the ball straight down the middle, assuming that the goalkeeper will move, but it's not always successful. Is there more thought involved in scoring a penalty than just running up and blasting the ball? Penalty takers mention not thinking too deeply, yet trying to fool the goalkeeper. We do many things on two levels, such as thinking where to put the ball (or where to fake it), but not thinking about what the feet, legs and body will do to achieve it. The more we practise, the more our actions become automatic skills. These memories take over when thinking fails, such as in front of 80,000 fans.
The leg-spinner's prize weapon - bowled properly, a googly is almost undetectable. A googly is a delivery which looks like a normal leg-spinner but actually turns towards the batsmen, like an off-break, rather than away from the bat. Unlike a normal leg-break, a googly is delivered out of the back of the hand, with the wrist 180 degrees to the ground. Hold the ball as if you're about to bowl a normal leg-break. At the point of release, the palm of your hand should be open upwards, towards the sky, with the back of your hand facing the batsman. Your wrist should be 180 degrees to the ground, while the seam of the ball should point towards fine leg. As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect. Use a tennis ball to help improve the flexibility of your wrist.
Many people, when the begin running, shoot for the stars. I was one of those. Let me tell you right now: hold yourself back, and start out slowly. Progress gradually. It takes some patience, but this is the best advice I can give you, and I know that it’s important because of experience. It’s best to start out very easy, at a slow jog, and focus not on intensity but on how long you’re on the road. Start out with a small amount of time — 10 minutes or 20 minutes, depending on where you are — and run or walk/run comfortably the entire time. Do this for the entire first week, and even two weeks if you can stand it. Gradually increase your time until you can run 30 minutes. From there, you can stay at 30 minutes or increase the amount of time you run gradually, every two weeks. But do not overdo it in the beginning!

Read our Minds, Consumer Debt and Complex Networks!
How often have you wondered what your spouse is really thinking? Or your boss? Or the guy sitting across from you on the bus? We all take as a given that we'll never really know for sure. The content of our thoughts is our own - private, secret, and unknowable by anyone else. Until now, that is. Neuroscience research into how we think and what we're thinking is advancing at a stunning rate, making it possible for the first time in human history to peer directly into the brain to read out the physical make-up of our thoughts, some would say to read our minds. So here's the million dollar question: if you can brain image me and get information directly from my brain, is that testimony? Or is that like DNA, blood, semen and other things that you could take from me?
The Bonn researchers used brain scanning to show how much we as humans take others' earnings as a measure of our own success. The study found that whether or not people made big paychecks, for example, was less of a motivating factor than whether they made more than their coworkers. In other words, winning the arbitrary competition appears to be more important than the reward itself. Which may be why Donald Trump is so fond of saying that money is not a motivation for him except as a way to keep score. It’s not as much what we have, as what we have in relation to others that appears to matter most. This may partially explain the unprecedented and ballooning levels of consumer debt in the westernized parts of the world. How we fit in and how we measure up are such an integral part of our financial well-being. We construct a fantasy world around those who have more money, and glorify their lives.
Complexity is a challenge by itself. Complex Networks are everywhere. It is a structural and organizational principle that reaches almost every field we can think of, from genes to power systems, from food webs to market shares. The mystery of life begins with the intricate web of interactions, integrating the millions of molecules within each organism. Humans, since their birth, experience the effect of networks every day, from large complex systems like transportation routes and communication networks, to less conscious interactions, common in social networks. Once we stumble across the right vision of complexity, it will take little to bring it to fruition. When that will happen is one of the mysteries that keeps many of us going
There is a degree of artificial controversy these days in the media and the scientific community on the respective benefits of physical or mental exercise. We obviously need both. Physical exercise keeps the body in a good shape but especially in older people also leads to cognitive benefits. Mental exercise, like the one we used, can enhance important abilities and is most likely the most efficient way to improve a specific cognitive process but also generalizes to a broader range of skills.

Hair Dryer, Survival Kit and Keep Warm!
Here are some inexpensive ways for you to add insulation to you existing windows that will save you money on your next heating or air conditioning bill. You can add a layer of clear plastic to the inside of the window. This seals off any air leaks and traps a layer of insulating air at the window. Being clear it still lets in light and lets you see out. The first step of the job is to put the special two-sided sticky tape all around the window frame. What is special is that it sticks good, but you can peel it off easily too. If you put it on crooked, like I do, you can fix it without throwing it away and starting over. Next, hang an over sized sheet of the clear plastic on the sticky tape. Then the fun part, use a hair dryer to shrink it so it is tight and wrinkle free. Last step is to cut away the excess plastic film around the window frame to make a neat looking job. Do not use heat shrink film outdoors; it is made for indoor use only.
As the colder weather rolls in for many of us, deadly winter hazards are also on the rise. Protect yourself and your loved ones if you ever get stranded in your car in the cold by packing and carrying a winter survival kit in your backseat or trunk at all times. If you ever find yourself stranded in the middle of winter and your car won't start for whatever reason, having a winter survival kit could save your life. It is important to remember that you can get hypothermia even when it is not below freezing. In this electronic age most people think that getting stranded just can't happen to them. If your counting on a cell phone or other electronic gadget to save you in this situation, please remember that electronics fail, batteries die, and in some remote locations these gadgets just don't work.
Bright blue skies, blankets of snow, crisp days and cozy nights by a crackling fire. For many people, winter is a welcome time of year. But for people with certain diseases like arthritis, it can be a pain—literally. While cold weather doesn’t cause arthritis or most other conditions that get worse when temperatures drop, it can cause problems for people who have them. Weather affects different people differently. Some people actually prefer cold weather, but many people with rheumatoid arthritis or lupus will be stiffer in the morning. It can take them longer to get up and loosen their joints and get going. As the weather changes, so can the pressure in your joints. People can actually feel changes in air pressure in their joints, which is why some people say they can predict the weather by the pain in their joints. Do what you can to keep warm!

Business Idea, Learning Curve and Getting Organized!
I want to start a home business, what kind of business should I choose? The only person who can answer this question for you, is you. I can’t tell you what business to start. What I do tell women though, is to think about your skills and talents, think about the things you like to do. There may be a business idea there. If you’re nervous about starting out all by yourself, talk to other work at home moms in your neighborhood. You may be able to team up with one of them. I want to work from home, who will hire me? Be careful with offers that claim to provide lists of companies hiring home workers. They may be legitimate, but there are a lot of scams out there too. The most important thing to remember is that you should never have to pay someone to work for them. The good news is, that there are more and more companies hiring telecommuters now. We believe you should not have to choose between quality of life, time with family and earning an income to secure your future. You can have them all! We're on a mission to help you have that balance.
A home based business can be a dream job when it comes to the current downturn in the economy. For those who are able to develop a strong home based business, there is no limit to how much you can earn, when you can earn it or how you can avoid the recession affecting your financial life. The key is to have a business that is able to do well even in a recession period. One such home based business is the business of affiliate marketing. The learning curve itself is not nearly as drastic as you may have thought. As a home based business, affiliate marketing offers several key benefits. It is highly affordable. You can work your business anytime you want to. Plus, when you are not able to man the computer, you could still be earning money from the business. Would you like to know more about the magical marketing techniques that have helped me to quit my day job? I have just completed my new ebook.
Are you looking for a business start up advice? Well, getting organized when you start a new business is probably the best startup advice that will help you achieve success. Getting organized does not just mean having your information in a filing system. It also includes writing down information about your clients and customers so you can better serve them when they call you. Being organized means keeping your address and phones numbers in an easy-to-use system. Be sure to make lists of the things you need to do, too. This will keep you from getting overwhelmed by trying to keep everything in your mind. Another important thing I can share to all my readers here is to constantly read online business community sites. It is very important to look for an active online community where a lot of amazing ideas are around.

Page Views, Business Goals and Walt Disney World!
How to make your blog a paying business? Tom Mangan works nights as a copy editor and page designer at the Mercury News. He spends a couple of his off hours each day betting on his idea of journalism's future. That involves updating his Cat Stock Blog, a site he created last month as a one-stop digital shop for everything you'd want to know about Caterpillar Inc., the world's largest manufacturer of engines, earthmovers and mining equipment. What sets Mangan apart from most bloggers is his clear focus on the business consequences of the content he's creating. If you think you want to blog for a living, you must be able to answer two questions: Where will the audience come from? And where will the money come from? Then you need to face a brutal reality: at best your blog will generate a penny per page view; you'll be lucky to get half that in the beginning. At a penny per, you'd need 10 million page views a year to earn $100,000.
Warren Buffett believes you need to keep score on your inner scorecard as opposed to your outer scorecard. In other words, measure yourself vs your own standards and not against other people. Yet another mistake I made. I compared my business to others regularly. It was a huge waste of time. So, here are two ways I make my visits to the competition productive. When I visit the competition, I won’t leave without an action plan that would work for my business. I may not use it, but at least I have it for further reference. Great stories are powerful and rare. When I visit the competition, I look for great stories to log into my moleskin. This has been a huge help with my writing and my presentations. So, while learning from your competition can be beneficial, comparing yourself to them is a waste of time. Don’t worry about who’s better or who earns more money. Instead, focus on what you can do to earn more money and achieve your business goals.
As I have thought about my experience with my personal websites, I kept coming back to my experience working at Walt Disney World. Disney trained its employees that, even though they had specific assigned responsibilities for their position, their job was to ensure that the park's guests were comfortably enjoying their visit. That meant you were supposed to do whatever you needed to do, not only to fulfill your assigned responsibilities, but to support the overall show at the park and to help the guests in your area. That's the attitude you need to bring to online publishing: Do whatever you need to do to make your site succeed, however you choose to define success. So your first assignment is to find five ad-supported websites you admire and learn how they handle their advertising. Get their rate cards and ad order forms. Find their readership profiles. Learn about how they manage ads, both now and when they first started publishing. You'll need to know how many absolute unique visitors your site attractions each day, week and month.

      Water, Infection and CO2!
Drinking plenty of fluids and getting lots of rest when needed is still the best bit of advice to ease the discomforts of the common cold. Water is the best fluid and helps lubricate the mucous membranes. Chicken soup does indeed help congestion and body aches. The hot steam from the soup may be its chief advantage, although laboratory studies have actually reported that ingredients in the soup may have anti-inflammatory effects. In fact, any hot beverage may have similar soothing effects from steam. Ginger tea, fruit juice, and hot tea with honey and lemon may all be helpful. Spicy foods that contain hot peppers or horseradish may help clear sinuses. Foods rich in vitamins A and C are always recommended and may be helpful during a respiratory infection. They include oranges, kiwi, and tomatoes for vitamin C, and sweet potatoes, spinach, and broccoli for vitamin A.
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of respiratory illness in young children. In adults, it may only produce symptoms of a common cold, such as a stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, mild headache, cough, fever, and a general feeling of being ill. But RSV infections can lead to other more serious illnesses in premature babies and kids with diseases that affect the lungs, heart, or immune system. RSV is highly contagious, and can be spread through droplets containing the virus when a person coughs or sneezes. RSV can be easily spread when a person touches an object or surface contaminated with the virus. The infection can spread rapidly through schools and child-care centers. Infants often get it when older kids carry the virus home from school and pass it to them. Almost all kids are infected with RSV at least once by the time they are 2 years old. RSV infections often occur in epidemics that last from late fall through early spring.
You may not be surprised to hear that U.S. paper consumption is the highest in the world, eating up some 12,430 square miles of forest each year, most of it in ecologically important areas. But did you know that pulp and paper manufacturing is one of the most polluting industries in North America and the third greatest emitter of CO2? Is it possible to find a strong, soft schnoz-swiper that doesn't strip the forest? First, a suggestion (and we don't mean to sound snotty): It should be plain as the nose on your face that the answer is a hankie. That's right, the reusable, foldable square of cloth your grandpappy has carried around for decades. It may need a good washing every now and then, but you won't be producing a mountain of trash every time you have a cold. A reusable cloth hankieIf you've absolutely got a hankering for a paper-based blower, look for products made with recycled content. Many facial tissues are bleached to make them white and purdy, but as with many beauty products, this process involves the use of harmful chemicals that you really don't want ending up in your air or water. So look for products labeled totally chlorine-free (TCF) or processed chlorine-free (PCF).
